(a) Pilgrim Praise, Pilgrim Church, Plymouth 1967

A typed collection of 25 hymns by Fred Kaan written while the author was minister of the Pilgrim (Congregational) Church, Plymouth. Four of the hymns are translations or paraphrases of contemporary Dutch hymns; the remainder are original compositions, and three of these are indexed as "children's hymn".

No music was included, but most of the hymns have tune names suggested from existing hymn-books; all the named tunes except Theodoric occurred in Congregational Praise, which would have been in use at the Pilgrim Church at that time.

Keble, J.: The Christian Year

John Keble: The Christian Year: Thoughts in Verse for the Sundays and Holydays throughout the Year. Oxford, Printed by W.Baxter for J.Parker; and C.& J.Rivington, St Paul's Church Yard, and Waterloo Place, London. 1827

Originally published in two volumes; Volume I began with Keble's Morning and Evening Hymns, followed by 48 hymns for the Sundays and Holy Days from Advent to Trinity Sunday; Volume II contained 53 hymns - for the rest of the liturgical year from the First Sunday after Trinity, for a number of Saints' Days, and for certain Special Occasions (Holy Communion, Holy Baptism, Catechism, Confirmation, Matrimony, Visitation and Communion of the Sick, Burial of the Dead, Churching of Women, and Commination). Each hymn is prefixed with a biblical text.

A facsimile edition, in two volumes like the original, was published in 1897 by Elliott Stock, Paternoster Row, London, with a Preface by Edward Roffen, Bishop of Rochester, and a list of alterations made by the author in the text of later editions. (There is one alteration noted in each of the Morning and Evening Hymns, and another four pages of alterations to the other hymns in The Christian Year.)

The book opens with an Advertisement - unattributed, but presumably the work of Keble himself. (Select the high-light here to view this.)
